County Schools, Offices, Courts, and Facilities to Remain Closed Wednesday

Frederick County Government offices and facilities will be closed again on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, in order to accommodate snow removal efforts in the county and the City. The City of Frederick is working diligently to clear streets to provide parking for residents and employees. The closure includes courts, schools, the landfill, recreation and parks programs, TransIT Services, and public libraries. County Provides Update and Remains Closed

Frederick County is working to recover from this weekend’s historic snow storm by focusing snow removal based on long-established priorities. Snow removal is a dynamic process that takes into consideration emergency and life safety incidents, vehicles buried in the snow, and weather conditions including road and air temperatures and wind. Road crews will continue to plow and clear roads until 10:00 p.m. or later this evening. Because temperatures are higher, snow can still be pushed and salt and chemicals can be applied to the roads. Governor Closes I-70 and I-270

Effective immediately, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared I-70 from I-695 to I-81 and I-270 from I-495 to I-70 closed until Sunday morning at 7 a.m. These highways continue to be completely covered in snow. Pavement is not visible. The immediate closure of the entire 34.7-mile length of I-270 and I-70 from I-81 in Washington County to the Baltimore Beltway includes to all motorists except for emergency personnel. The vacancies add to the numerous holes in Walkersville’s only shopping center across MD 194, and the two gas stations just up MD 194.
