New Walkersville Library Set to Open Doors March 10

Final preparations are underway to open the doors to Walkersville’s new library. The new facility will open on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Located on South Glade Road, the 15,000 square-foot facility will replace the current and smaller Walkersville library. The new building will offer an expanded collection; a science, technology, engineering and mathematics lab; meeting rooms; computers and more to better meet the needs of the community. Board of Ed Selects Walkersville for Rock Creek School

After voting overwhelmingly against building a new Rock Creek School in Walkersville, the Frederick County Board of Education voted in the exact opposite to do just that. A large group of people from the Monocacy Middle School area attended and opposed locating Rock Creek on their school grounds. Walkersville Middle recommended as site for new Rock Creek School

The Frederick News Post reports: The latest recommendation calls for building the new Rock Creek School on the same grounds as Walkersville Middle School. The architect of the school, as well as Frederick County Public Schools staff, reviewed seven possible sites for the new Rock Creek School, a school for students from ages 3 to 21 with severe disabilities. Old Town Walkersville Scene of Attempted Murder

Maryland State Police arrested a man early Thursday morning in the stabbing of his estranged wife in Frederick County. The suspect, Jeremiah William Snyder, 36, of 16 Maple Avenue in Walkersville, is charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. He is being held without bond at the Frederick County Detention Center.
