Biggs Ford Solar Farm Requests Continuance After Similar Project is Denied

The Frederick County Board of Zoning Appeals met Thursday evening to discuss three proposed solar energy farms, including the proposed solar arrays on former Walkersville Burgess Ralph Whitmore’s farm on Biggs Ford Road. Mr. Whitmore’s farm and a proposed solar farm at Ballenger Creek Pike and East Basford Road both lie on property in priority preservation areas. Town of Walkersville Opposes Solar Farm

On Wednesday evening, the Town of Walkersville voted to forward a letter opposing a solar farm on Biggs Ford Road. That letter from the Walkersville Planning Commission resulted from Tuesday evenings Planning Commission meeting. The Frederick County Board of Zoning Appeals requested input from Walkersville, because the property lies within Walkersville’s area of influence and a priority preservation area as defined by Frederick County. Maryland Applying for Disaster Relief

Maryland Emergency Management Agency’s (MEMA) Executive Director Russell Strickland has sent a letter of intent for the State of Maryland to pursue federal disaster assistance and to request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) begin the coordination for joint damage assessments following the winter storm that covered Maryland in snow this past weekend. Blizzard Clean-Up and Aftermath Continues

Glade Valley and the entire region continue to suffer the costs and burdens of the historic blizzard that dumped 35 inches of snow in Walkersville. Many neighborhoods in the county have not seen snow plows, at all. Frederick County, The City of Frederick, and Frederick County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. Governor Closes I-70 and I-270

Effective immediately, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared I-70 from I-695 to I-81 and I-270 from I-495 to I-70 closed until Sunday morning at 7 a.m. These highways continue to be completely covered in snow. Pavement is not visible. The immediate closure of the entire 34.7-mile length of I-270 and I-70 from I-81 in Washington County to the Baltimore Beltway includes to all motorists except for emergency personnel.
