The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission asked the Burgess and Town Commissioners for their permission to explore modifying the Town’s Design Manual. Specifically, they would like to allow for more narrow streets and change cul-de-sac length requirments within neighborhoods. The issue continues to rise during site plan reviews when developers have to meet Maryland storm run-off requirements due to the amount of pavement the Town of Walkersville requirements. Walkersville Rezoning Withdrawn

The Pratt Family on Maple Avenue hoped to convince the Walkersville Planning Commission to rezone their property from Residential to Old Town Mixed Use Tuesday evening. After hearing from staff and the applicants, the Planning Commission explained that Maryland law forbids them from recommending a rezoning unless there was a mistake in the zoning of the property during the last comprehensive re-zoning of the whole town or if the character of the neighborhood had changed dramatically. New housing will be coming to Walkersville over the next few years. Plans for 167 homes have come before the Walkersville Planning Commission over the past few months. Most have received preliminary approval, and the others will be heard by the commission in the near future. The Bell Property most recently received preliminary approval for 103 homes. The property lies between MD 194, Fountain Rock Road, Walkersville Elementary School, and another farm on Fountain Rock Road.
