Walkersville Planning Commission Meeting

The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission will meet only once this month on Tuesday, November 18th at 7:30 p.m in the Walkersville Town Hall. The Planning Commission plans to continue and possibly forward several ordinances to the Burgess and Town Commissioners for approval. They have been working on these ordinances for most of the year. Sinkholes and Fences Dominate Town Hall Meeting

The Town of Walkersville’s Burgess and Town Commissioners met Wednesday evening to discuss fences and sinkholes. Both have been discussed a lot lately at town hall this year. The fencing ordinance came after one property owner built a fence that had been approved by town staff and later had to be moved.  The resulting confrontation led Town Commissioners to direct the town’s Planning Commission to recommend changes.  The Planning Commission not only updated the existing ordinance, but wrote an entire new section to the town’s code to address fences.  Fencing…

Walkersville Rezoning Withdrawn

The Pratt Family on Maple Avenue hoped to convince the Walkersville Planning Commission to rezone their property from Residential to Old Town Mixed Use Tuesday evening.  After hearing from staff and the applicants, the Planning Commission explained that Maryland law forbids them from recommending a rezoning unless there was a mistake in the zoning of the property during the last comprehensive re-zoning of the whole town or if the character of the neighborhood had changed dramatically.  The Planning Commission could not find either of these to be true.   Commissioner…

Walkersville to Update Fencing Regulations

The Walkersville Planning Commission hopes to send proposed amendments to the Walkersville Town Code that will address fences in the town.  The proposal will be discussed and may be approved at the Planning Commission’s Public Hearing on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the Walkersville Town Hall. Fence Regulations Being Updated

The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission met Wednesday, May 13, 2014 for its regularly scheduled workshop. A request by town commissioners to update fencing regulations monopolized the meeting. Susan Hauver, Planning and Zoning Administrator for the town, presented rules and regulations from various municipalities throughout the state. Planning commissioners spent a considerable time debating the sizes to be permitted on different properties based upon location on a block, zoning, and safety.
