Blight & Trash Talk Continues

The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission will continue discussions to address blight and trash in the town Tuesday evening. The members picked up the matter after the Town’s Economic Development Commission presented ideas to the Burgess and Town Commissioners. The Planning Commission has discussed laws in other jurisdictions and a proposed bill from the Maryland General Assembly. At their last meeting, they met with legal counsel to discuss the issue. More Blight, Trash and Traffic Discussions

The Walkersville Planning Commission will meet for its monthly public hearing on Tuesday night. Items on the agenda include a second request by Calvary Assembly of God to place a modular building on its property and a continuation of blight, vacancies, and trash in the Town of Walkersville. Last summer, Calvary Assembly of God requested approval to place a 1,410 square foot modular building on their property. Walkersville Planning Commission Workshop on Blight

The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission will hold a workshop on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 to discuss issues related to vacant, blighted, neglected and abandoned properties. At their last public hearing, the Planning Commission asked to review two ordinances proposed by the Walkersville Economic Development Commission (EDC) with the town’s attorney, code enforcement officer, and members of the EDC at this month’s workshop. Vacant Properties and Blight in Walkersville

The Walkersville Planning Commission spent a considerable portion of their public hearing last night discussing two proposed ordinances from the Town’s Economic Development Commission. Town Commissioner Russ Winch, representative on both commissions, explained that Burgess Ralph Whitmore wants this to be a priority. The Burgess and Town Commissioners assigned the EDC to develop and ordinance, and the proposal was then sent to the Planning Commission. Walkersville Taking On Blight

The Walkersville Economic Development Commission was charged by the Town’s Burgess and Commissioners to draft an ordiance or develop a plan to address various issues of blight on both residential and commercial properties around town.
