The Walkersville Economic Development Commission was charged by the Town’s Burgess and Commissioners to draft an ordiance or develop a plan to address various issues of blight on both residential and commercial properties around town. The Frederick County Council will discuss the widening of Maryland 194 through Walkersville at its meeting on March 17, 2015. The Community Development Division will present the county’s Annual Transportation Priorities for review by the County Council. The widening of MD 194 was listed as a top priority on the list. Many in Walkersville have questioned the wisdom of widening the road through their town. While the road is often congested, the road was once a bypass, but now intersects the town. P.U.R.E. Love, legally Preserve Unity Render Empowerment, Inc., moved into Old Town Walkersville last year. The business vacated the premises with little fanfare last week. The company’s web site states that its mission is to enrich and rebuild, to change lives of economically disadvantage children nationally and internationally through the empowerment of education, leadership, and community service. There has not been much activity at the offices for some time. It appeared things were being removed for the past few weeks. Last week, a roll-off was dumped in front of the business. Criminals Caught

The criminals responsible for the vehicle break-ins have been apprehended. The two individuals knew their pictures were all over Facebook. According to one of the victims, “I received a call from the investigating officer and the movie stars have been caught! They new they were on FB and admitted to everything.” The culprits are minors. So, their identities have not been released.
