Blizzard Clean-Up and Aftermath Continues

Glade Valley and the entire region continue to suffer the costs and burdens of the historic blizzard that dumped 35 inches of snow in Walkersville. Many neighborhoods in the county have not seen snow plows, at all. Frederick County, The City of Frederick, and Frederick County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Walkersville crews and contractors have been hard at work trying to make all of its roads accessible. Walkersville Postpones Sidewalk Clearing Monitoring

Walkersville’s Burgess Chad Weddle paused his plowing duties for the Town of Walkersville this evening to ask us to share news concerning the storm. “Because of the large volume of snow, the Town will not be monitoring sidewalk clearing until the earlier of Wednesday, or when Frederick County Public Schools re-open. Stay safe and warm and don’t overdo it.” The Town Code requires sidewalks to be cleared within twenty-four hours of the snow ending. The historic snowfall prompted the easing of the requirement. Chimney Fire in Walkersville

The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company and the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company responded to a chimney fire at 53 Main Street in Walkersville shortly before 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. Black billows of smoke poured from the chimney of the house and flames were visible. The apparatus responding blocked Main Street and parts of Five Corners. Junior Fire Company also responded to the call. Firefighters fought the fire from the roof and within the home. The fire was extinguished quickly. 140 Acre Solar Farm on Biggs Ford Not Part of Executive Order

On Friday, January 15, 2016, County Executive Jan Gardner took executive action to address the growing number of applications for solar farms to be built on agricultural land in Frederick County. Executive Gardner placed a six month hold on the consideration of applications for large scale solar farms. The executive action does not apply to any project with an application submitted before January 15, 2015.
