Mulch Fire Temporarily Closes Soon to be Closed Yard Waste Facility in Walkersville

The massive mulch pile and yard waste at Walkersville’s Heritage Farm Park caught fire on Thursday morning. While firefighters and crews from the county’s solid waste management department worked to contain the situation, the county-operated facility was closed. Despite plans to re-open the facility on Friday, it remains closed. Town officials did not know as of Friday morning if Frederick County would re-open the facility for the weekend. Barn Fire 1100BLK Dublin Rd

At 03:08 hrs Co.24 (Squad-24 & A247) were dispatched for a barn fire in the 1100Blk of Dublin Rd. E161 arrived on scene to confirm a 300’X200’ barn fully involved with exposures. C11 arrived on scene and established Dublin Rd. command and requested a tanker task force due to non-hydrant area. The next unit arrived on scene and picked up E161 line. Quint 11 arrived on scene to set-up ladder pipe operations. ET114 arrived on scene and dropped their folding tank to setup water supply. E132 arrived and established a draft site. All other units arrived and on scene and sent their personal to the command post. All tankers operated in a water shuttle operation. After the fire was out Command was terminated and units went in service as ready.

Chimney Fire in Walkersville

The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company and the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company responded to a chimney fire at 53 Main Street in Walkersville shortly before 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. Black billows of smoke poured from the chimney of the house and flames were visible. The apparatus responding blocked Main Street and parts of Five Corners. Junior Fire Company also responded to the call. Firefighters fought the fire from the roof and within the home. The fire was extinguished quickly. Walkersville Responds to House Fire

At 14:51 hrs. Co.24 & 11 were dispatched for Box alarm 17 in the 10300 block Old Annapolis Rd. C15-3 arrived on scene with fire showing on side A and assumed command, E172 soon arrived on scene and the crews from E172 pulled a 1”3/4 line and begin attack on the fire all other units arrived on scene and took their assigned positions. Soon after command advised ECC to start the RIT and tanker task force due to non-hydrant area. ET114 arrived on scene and began to help E23 set up water supply. Q11 arrived on scene and began laddering the roof and making trench cuts for venting. RS24 arrived on scene and set up for cascade system to fill bottles. The tankers arrived on scene to supply water. Fire was then extinguished and some Units remained on scene for extended amount of time to help clean up and overhaul. Then units went in service as ready and command was terminated.
