Executive and Council President Disagree with Ethics Commission

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner and County Council President Bud Otis sent correspondence to the Frederick County Ethics Commission expressing their “strong disagreement” regarding the May 12, 2015, Ethics Commission Opinion (No. 15-01) permitting an elected County Council Member’s private business to bid and perform work on Frederick County Governmental capital improvements projects or contracts. According to the opinion, an un-named county council member requested an opinion from the Ethics Commission. Repairs Needed at Fountain Rock Lime Kilns

In 2009, Frederick County Parks and Recreation began to notice a significant amount of bricks falling from the Fountain Rock Lime Kilns’ west side oven arch barrels. Frederick County’s Fountain Rock Park abuts Walkersville’s Community Park, and can be accessed from a nature trail in Walkersville. At the time, Frederick County Board of County Commissioners approved asking the National Park Service – Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) to complete a Condition Assessment Report to ascertain the reason for the brick failure. Tax Rebates Increase for Glade Valley

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner’s first proposed budget, which will be for fiscal year 2016, includes substantial increases in tax rebates for Glade Valley’s municipalities. In fact, Glade Valley’s town’s would receive the second and fourth highest increases. These tax rebates provide funds to the towns, because those towns provide services that the county provides outside of their boundaries. For instance, Walkersville and Woodsboro maintain their own streets. Walkersville also provides law enforcement through a contract with Maryland State Police. New Walkersville Library in County’s Budget

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner released her first proposed budget yesterday. The proposal includes good news for Glade Valley. Mrs. Gardner’s proposed budget includes the much delayed replacement of the Walkersville Library.  The project will take three years and $6,687,166 according to the budget. The plan would see a new library opening in Walkersville sometime in 2018. In fiscal year 2016, Frederick County plans to spend $55,432 on architect and engineering costs.
