Last Day of School

As a result of the number of snow days earlier in the year, Frederick County Public Schools must adjust their calendar for the year. The last day of school for students in Frederick County, Maryland, Public Schools is Thursday, June 18, 2015. On that day, schools will dismiss students 2 hours early. Monday, June 15, Tuesday, June 16 and Wednesday, June 17 are full school days.

Walkersville Passes Budget and Tax Rate

The Town of Walkersville’s Burgess and Commissioners will meet this evening to discuss the tax rate and proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2016. During their meeting on May 13, 2016, the Burgess and Commissioners voted to move ahead with a proposed budget and maintaining the current tax rate of $0.15 per $100 assessed value.  That vote brought the matter to a public hearing this evening. Blight & Trash Talk Continues

The Town of Walkersville’s Planning Commission will continue discussions to address blight and trash in the town Tuesday evening. The members picked up the matter after the Town’s Economic Development Commission presented ideas to the Burgess and Town Commissioners. The Planning Commission has discussed laws in other jurisdictions and a proposed bill from the Maryland General Assembly. At their last meeting, they met with legal counsel to discuss the issue. Sheriff Warns of Hostage Scam

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office handled several abduction scams this week. Several victims reported that an individual called claiming to have been in an accident with someone related to them. The scammer claimed they were illegal immigrants and did not want to go to the hospital or involve the police. The scammers then claimed they were holding the victim’s relative hostage until money was wired to the scammer.
