Walkersville Passes Budget and Tax Rate

cropped-townseal1.jpgThe Town of Walkersville’s Burgess and Commissioners will meet this evening to discuss the tax rate and proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2016. During their meeting on May 13, 2016, the Burgess and Commissioners voted to move ahead with a proposed budget and maintaining the current tax rate of $0.15 per $100 assessed value.  That vote brought the matter to a public hearing this evening.

The current tax rate of $0.15 will generate slightly higher revenues this year as assessments increased overall for properties in the Town of Walkersville. The Constant Yield Rate was calculated to be $0.143 per $100 of assessed value.

Overall, the budget will decrease as the Town expects to see about 4% less in revenue. The budget will fall below $3,000,000 at $2,959,313.  Last year, the budget was $3,083,496. The difference is the loss of a grant, mortgage interest on a loan the Town held, and no liquor license fees projected.
