The day after a day long snow storm that dumped over ten inches of snow in some areas of Glade Valley brought temperatures that felt like spring time to many residents. The high temperature Sunday was more than forty degrees warmer than the low temperature on Saturday. After weeks of arctic temperatures, the near average temperatures felt balmy as everyone shoveled and plowed the snow that blanketed the area. Glade Valley Represented at Ice Cream Making Contest

Three groups from Glade Valley tried their recipes and muscles at the Annual Ag Week at the Mall Ice Cream Making Contest. The event had been postponed twice due to the nasty weather this week. What was to have taken place Monday evening, finally happened on Thursday evening. The turn-out was the contest’s largest ever. Kaleidoscope 4-H Club, Walkersville 4-H Club and Walkersville FFA each had teams present for the contest. Ahmed Hudhud presented plans for re-opening the gas station on Sandstone Drive to the Walkersville Planning Commission for approval and to the Burgess and Town Commissioners this week. During the Walkersville Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night, members of the commission questioned some of the plans designs and the history of the property. The property stopped receiving fuel over a year ago, had become an eyesore, and attracted some questionable activity before Mr. Hudhud purchased the property at a bank auction. Blown Transformer Interupts Play-Off Watching

A blown transformer interrupted Baltimore Ravens fans’ Saturday evening plans in Walkersville. A transformer at the corner of West Frederick Street and Fulton Avenue exploded in the midst of the game. Potomac Edison quickly dispatched trucks to restore power to the area, but many were left to check scores on portable radios or smart phones. The area blacked out was small, but temperatures well below freezing combined with a major sporting event left residents frustrated.
