Walkersville Seeks Input from Old Town Residents
In response to a request from the Walkersville Planning Commission, Town Commissioners voted to gauge the interest of Old Town residents in changing the zoning of their properties to Old Town Mixed Use.
The Planning Commission looked at different options to try to accommodate a property owner’s request to change zoning, but could find no legal way to do so. They recommended a small area rezoning, but Town Commissioners and the Burgess seemed to think that it may not be necessary. The last comprehensive rezoning was in 2013.
Burgess Ralph Whitmore suggested running an ad in the paper to see if anyone is interested in rezoning, besides the one applicant. Commissioner Gary Baker suggested putting a question in the water bills to see if there is much interest.
Burgess Whitmore even suggested going door to door rather than spending a lot of time and money on letters, advertisements, and the like.
In the end, it was decided to find out if there are more property owners interested in re-zoning. If you live in Old Town Walkersville and would like to rezone to Old Town Mixed Use, contact Walkersville Town Hall at 301-845-4500 orĀ townofwalkersville@comcast.net.
