Walkersville Awards and Seeks Bids
During its August 12, 2015 Town Meeting, The Town of Walkersville awarded bids and attempted again for bids on another project.
A bid was awarded for the engineering to replace water lines on Liberty Street and Moon Maiden Court. Three firms bid on the job. Bids ranged in prices from $14,000 – $30,000. The Town Commissioners accepted town staff recommendations to award Arro Consulting, Inc the contract at a price of about $14,000.
A request for bids for the construction of a Community Park Basketball Court went unanswered. The Town put out another request and followed up by calling local companies who may be interested. Town staff hope to receive bids.
The Town Commissioners also awarded the bid of Welcome to Walkersville signs to Shannon-Baum Signs, Inc. Five signs will be placed along roads entering Walkersville. The signs will cost approximately $25,000; Signs by Tomorrow also bid on the project for $30,000.
Locations for the signs have not been secured. The Town hopes to erect the signs at the north and south ends of town on MD 194, along Biggs Ford Road, Devillbiss Bridge Road, and Crum Road. Commissioner Gary Baker suggested asking Maryland State Highway Administration for permission to erect the signs in their right-of-way along MD 194 instead of asking property owners. Town officials seemed pessimistic of approval, but agreed to pursue the State’s approval.
