Walkersville Beats Oakland Mills; Only Frederick County Team Left in State Play-offs

Tonight the Walkersville Lions took on the Oakland Mills football team in the first round of the playoffs. Both teams are going into this game with the same record of 8-2. Walkersville had the better outcome tonight with the victory over Oakland Mills, with the final score 26-14
To start the game Sophomore Jacob Wetzel on the carry. The first touchdown of the game was scored by junior Chad Gleason with 7:09 left in the 1st quarter making the score 6-0. The extra kick was no good. With 48 seconds left in the 1st quarter Oakland Mills scores, and their extra point was good. Making the score 7-6 Oakland Mills
In the second quarter both teams went scoreless.
3rd quarter starts. Fumble on the field recovered by Walkersville was declined. With 7:52 left in the 3rd quarter Oakland Mills scored, and extra point was good. Making the score 14-6.
Walkersville scored, but missed the extra point making it 14-12 Oakland Mills. With 58 seconds left in the 3rd quarter there was a fumble on the field and Walkersville recovered it. Next play Sophomore Billy Gant passes it to Wetzel and scores with 9 seconds left in the 3rd, making the score 18-14 Walkersville; Walkersville went for the two point conversion, which was good making the score 20-14 Walkersville.
In the 4th quarter (#5) Gleason scores with 10:10 left on the clock. Walkersville went for the two point conversion, which was no good. Making the final score 26-14 Walkersville
Senior Zach Saylor said, ” We play as a team and the journey we started back in January in the weight room is still rolling. I couldn’t be more proud of our team, the whole school and town is behind us, and hoping to keep the journey going”
Sophomore Ty Littleton said, ” It feels great to win because it was a hard fought game and we stuck together. That’s what really won the game for us. Honestly I think Oakland Mills was the best team other than us. We are going to come into the [South Carroll] game with a war mindset. I tell people do you want to play another half or another game, and it just fires everyone up because we weren’t supposed to be in this spot and we shocked the county and the state. “
Come out to next week’s playoff game Friday, when the Walkersville lions take on South Carroll at 7.
