Motor Vehicle Accident as Parade Begins
As units were lined up and ready for the Walkersville Homeotown parade to start on June 30, 2015, Walkersville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies units were dispatched to MD 194 and West Frederick Street for a vehicle accident. Dispatch reported one car on its side.
Chief 11 arrived on the scene to confirm dispatch. Two vehicles were involved with one on its side. Two patients were found still in the car.
Engine 111 arrived on the scene to pull 1 Âľ line for protection from fluids. Rescue Squad 24 arrived on the scene soon after.
Crews went to work stabilizing the vehicle and removing passenger side door to extricate the patients.
Ambulance 308, covering the first due area for Walkersville companies during the parade, arrived on the scene to start with patient care.
Command soon requested two more Basic Life Support units. Ambulances 247 and 249 arrived on the scene to start with patient care for the other patients.
All patients were transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Command was terminated, units went in service as ready, and the parade began.
