Maryland State Police Investigate Collision Over the Weekend
At 10:33 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, a Trooper assigned to the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack came upon a serious two vehicle collision that had just occurred.
Preliminary on scene investigation reveals that a 2013 Nissan Frontier truck was traveling West on Maryland Route 26. The Nissan Frontier truck struck the rear of a 2014 Mazda passenger vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light controlling the intersection of Sebastian Boulevard and Maryland Route 26. The traffic signal was red at the time of the collision.
The Mazda was being operated by Luther Long, Jr., a 59 year old resident of Walkersville, Maryland. Mr.Long sustained serious life threatening injuries during the collision and was transported via Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 3 to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Mr. Long’s family is not releasing information about his condition at this time.
The Driver of the Nissan Frontier sustained non-life threatening injuries requiring transport to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Due to the on going investigation into the collision, the identity of the driver for the Nissan Frontier is not being released at this time.
Maryland State Police Crash Team responded to the scene, assisting with the investigation. Frederick County Fire and EMS personnel assisted with the road closure of Maryland Route 26 in both directions. Maryland Route 26 was closed in both directions for several hours, re-opening at 2:30 a.m.
Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor into the collision along with driver error.
