The Walkersville Boys soccer team lost their first round playoff game against Boonsboro Thursday night 2-1. Freshman Spencer Shortt said “We started the season knowing what we had to do, and we did it; we just didn’t finish tonight”

The atmosphere at Lions Stadium was euphoric — the crowd and players were all anxious to get started. The game started and both teams were fighting hard to strike first.

The Lions did with fifteen minutes remaining in the first half. Junior Soler gave the Lions the lead they would hold for thirty minutes. After the game Soler said “We played hard for 90 minutes; it’s the last ten minutes that they won this game.”

Then with twenty five minutes remaining and the Lions hopes looking good for advancing to the next round, the Warriors scored. The next fifteen minutes were hard fought on both sides of the ball. The Warriors pelted the Lions goal with shot after shot, and the Lions goalkeeper Alex Moore kept turning them away. Until there was ten minutes to go Alex Moore blocked a shot and couldn’t scramble fast enough to the other side of the goal to block the rebound. The Warriors went up 2-1 and dropped back on defense for the rest of the game, turning away the Lions every time. Alex Moore ended the game with seven saves.
