On October 23rd, The Lady Lions field hockey team played the Catoctin Cougars in the playoffs. The Lions were able to beat the Cougars, the final score being 4-1.

The first half was slow for the most part. Each team got an opportunity here or there but really couldn’t capitalize. The only goal this half was for Catoctin. It was scored 12 minutes into the game.

After the goal Walkersville’s defensive concentration seemed to pick up. They were able to play above average defensive for the rest of the half. Their offense just couldn’t string anything together, and that led to the score being Catoctin- 1 Walkersville- 0 at the end of the half.

Walkersville’s offensive intensity seemed to increase immensely. Their opportunities were fueled by the spectacular defense they were playing at the other end. The first of their many opportunities came seven minutes in when a deflected shot almost snuck it the goal; it went just wide but it definitely helped Walkersville’s confidence.

After the missed shot Walkersville was able to score minutes later thanks to a goal from Sophomore Dakotah Fraley. Two minutes later Fraley almost scored again just missing a shot wide (18:50 left in game)

Four minutes later, senior Sophia Policelli was able to score to give the Lions the lead. With 7:45 on the clock, the Lions were able to score thanks to a long goal from Fraley. Walkersville sealed the game when Policelli scored again with 3:05 left on the clock.

Thanks to their stellar defensive and explosive second half offense, the Lady Lions will move on to the next round of the playoffs. They will have to play FSK on the road on October 27 at 3:30.
