Lamp Post Ripped Down
Not long after the Coca-Cola machine at Walkersville Pharmacy was toppled by vandals, one of Colony Village’s decorative lamp posts along South Glade Road met a similar fate. There was no indication as to the cause of the damage, but the lamp post has been “coned-off” for safety. The lamp post is not far from the damaged soda machine. It is also very close to a busy intersection for pedestrians, children on bicycles and scooters, and a large bus stop for Glade Elementary School students.

Home Break-In Investigation
Maryland State Police were called to Old Town Walkersville on Sunday to investigate a break-in on West Pennsylvania Avenue. A first floor bathroom window was opened, and suspects are believed to have gained entry from that point. A neighbor feared the break-in may be tied to on-going drug abuse and sales around Five Corners. “We sit and watch drug sales from our front porches,” several neighbors confided. “I don’t understand why these things continue. Vandalism Costs More Than Aesthetics
The staff at the Walkersville Pharmacy arrived at work earlier this week to find the Coke machine in front of the pharmacy on its side and its power cord ripped out of the wall. This was the second time in about a month. A previous machine was bolted to the ground after vandals kept damaging the machine. The machine is owned by Coca-Cola, who told the pharmacy that the machine will probably not be replaced. “They can’t afford to keep fixing and replacing machines,” a pharmacy employee explained. Walkersville Schedules Public Hearing on Crime
As discussed during a Town Meeting last month, the Town of Walkersville will host a public hearing on crime in Walkersville. The public hearing has been schedule for September 9, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Walkersville’s Town Hall. The meeting was proposed by Town Commissioner Chad Weddle, candidate for Burgess of Walkersville, after he agreed to do so as part of mediation with residents of Old Town Walkersville.
