Home Break-In Investigation

MSPSHIELDMaryland State Police were called to Old Town Walkersville on Sunday to investigate a break-in on West Pennsylvania Avenue. A first floor bathroom window was opened, and suspects are believed to have gained entry from that point.

A neighbor feared the break-in may be tied to on-going drug abuse and sales around Five Corners. “We sit and watch drug sales from our front porches,” several neighbors confided. “I don’t understand why these things continue. Everyone knows its happening and who the people are, but nothing happens,” said another neighbor.

One neighbor attended the recent Old Town Neighborhood Watch meeting, and said police told them to buy video cameras. When that neighbor asked about specific addresses, they were told that local troopers may not know what other divisions or agencies are doing when they pass the information up the chain of command. Two of the neighbors said they had put cameras on their house and feel it has deterred activity in front of their homes. “Even the Walkersville Feed Store has installed security cameras,” noted one of the neighbors.

Neighbors did not want to be identified for fear of their own safety. “They continue selling drugs, walking and driving high or drunk in cars and lawn mowers, and our kids are out here,” another neighbor complained.

The Town of Walkersville will be holding a public hearing on crime issues in Walkersville on September 9, 2015.
