Brush Fire Along Monocacy River

Mills Custom Wood Floors

Walkersville Day celebrations were interrupted for the brave volunteers at Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company and Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company. At 9:52a.m., Frederick County Emergency Communications Center dispatched Engine Tanker 114 (ET114), Brush 116 (B116), and ATV24 to the area of Castle Rock Road and the Monocacy River for a reported brush fire in the woods.

ET114 and ATV24 arrived at the residence of the caller on Castle Rock Road who reported smoke coming form the river. The caller directed crews far down a trail.

Chief 11 established Castle Rock Road command.

Gaining access from Monocacy Boulevard, Brush 116 was able to access to a dirt bike trail. Using ATV 24, crews used a dirt trail to gain access to the location of the smoke. Chief 11 advised that the fire was about 500-600 feet off the bike path, down along the river.

A large Oak tree stump and brush caught fire due to a recent outside fire from the night before that had not been extinguished properly.

Crews transported submersible pumps, a portable generator, and other equipment from ET114 and B116. They pumped water out of the river to extinguish the fire. At 12:30 p.m., the fire was out and units went back into service.
