Wrestling Team Getting Better with Each Match
by Nicole Cregger
Wrestling is a good sport to play if you like working on your own. It is a one on one match instead of multiple people at a time.
Here is how wrestling works for everyone who isn’t as familiar with it:
- You are separated by your weight so you will wrestle a person that is around your weight instead someone smaller or bigger than you. This will make a fair challenge between you and your opponent.
“We are 2-0 and we have a match today and I think we are going to pull out with a win,” said junior Chase Tyeryar. “I think there is more freshman and sophomores this year than last year,” Tyeryar added.
“I think we are going to do pretty good. We are missing some spots for wrestling but the spots we actually have are pretty good,” said senior Chad Gleason
“We started out rough without the football guys but now we are doing good,” said senior Christian Isanogle.
During practice it is very difficult so you must stay in shape. It pushes not just you to improve, but with your team during the practices.
“Training can wear you out because you are doing drills without stopping during them,” said senior Jake Borowski.
“The adrenaline in my body before the match that you know you trained the hardest you can do during practice and after the match, win or loss, I know I did my best and left it on the mat,”said junior Gabriel Hernandez.
The things we do before a match is we usually stay in the wrestling room to get focused and ready. You will usually roll and around and do drills to get the blood flowing through us,” said Jake Borowski.
Wrestling is a great sport to do to keep in shape during the winter season.
“Even though wrestling is not really a team game the guys are going to be there for the other guys and help them out to get better and be good this season,”said senior Bj Borowski.
“At my old school there was a lot of selection. All the guys were good. Here you can pick up someone that is not good and it can be a easy match to beat,” said BJ Borowski.
“Wrestling is like a your own sport — if you mess up, it is on you and not other teammates,” said Gleason.
Hernandez feels that “the bonding brotherhood on the team,” is his favorite. “This would be my fourth year wrestling and next year will be my fifth year as a senior,” said Hernandez.
“I have been playing since I was in second grade. At my old school I came in eighth place for a private state match school,” said BJ Borowski.
“I played for seven years and stop[ped] to focus more on football. This is my first time coming back,” said Gleason.
“With wrestling you get a good connection with your teammates, [which] makes it a good experience,” said BJ Borowski.
“The attitude we have makes it feel like we have the best team, even though we’re not the best in skill,” said Jake Borowski.
If you like to be competitive, than wrestling is a good sport for you to play.
