The Joys of a Two Hour Delay, Walkersville Style
by Darius Young
It’s the cold winter season and snow is falling down. With lots of snow falling and the winter weather reports booming with snow forecast FCPS will have to make the decision countless times to cancel school or to go with a two hour delay.
A two hour delay is what all teachers, juniors, and underclassman would prefer, so they don’t have to make up the off days at the end of the year. Seniors don’t care because making up the days at the end of the year does not affect them since they are graduating. With two hour delays students in Walkersville really like them a lot. When asked what makes a two hour delay better than a regular day, WHS math teacher Chris Booth said: “There is something about waking up with light outside it makes me feel better. That’s why I think we should make days like this everyday.”
Senior CJ Barndollar said: “I think it they are better than regular days because when you wake up you have more energy and feel better. Waking up and seeing light also really helps with my mood.” It seems like seeing light in the morning instead of darkness really plays a major role in setting a positive mood for people in the morning.
“I think two hour delays are great things that really help me get extra rest and even extra study time in the morning before school. I don’t feel like I am rushing and I feel a lot more ready for school than at seven in the morning,” said Senior Kyle Daggett.”This two hour delay today really was the best and I got problems the best sleep today I had all year,” said: Freshman Ty Collins.
It seems like lots of Walkersville students and teachers agree on making a two hour delay an everyday thing and also that it really helps with creating a more positive and energetic environment for the classrooms, which benefits the teacher and the students. The teachers and students here at Walkersville High love the two hour delay and want to see it become an everyday thing. With winter just in at full effect you should expect to see lots of snow and two hour delays.
