Woman Dies in Woodsboro After Being Struck

Responding to a call at 6:23 a.m. Sunday, deputies found the young lady and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The driver of a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, William Beacom of Detour, MD, struck a pedestrian near Route 550 along a dark and foggy Route 194.  The driver stopped and called 911 to report the collision. Deputies responded and closed Route 194 while they investigated.

Their investigation revealed that Ms. Ruhl was walking in the southbound lane of the roadway.  She was wearing dark clothing as she walked through a foggy, dark morning.  They do not believe speed to be a factor in the crash, nor was Mr. Beacom impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s assistance in identifying the victim and with any information regarding this tragedy.  The deputies describe her as a white female about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 90 – 100 pounds. She was wearing khaki pants, a dark brown jacket, a green sleeveless shirt, and black shoes with purple laces. If you have information, please call Cpl. Ruppenthal at 301-600-3897.
