Walkersville Hold Rare Joint Meeting

townsealThe Town of Walkersville will hold a rare joint meeting of the Town Commissioners, the Parks Committee, and the Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. The meeting comes a little over a week after the Planning and Zoning Commissioners sent an improvement plan for Heritage Park back to the Town for more information.

The Planning Commission did not vote on the plan as presented this past Tuesday, but listed many items missing from the plan. Some items were also listed as incomplete by county departments that must approve measures.  Some items included building dimensions, defined use of the proposed building, parking improvements, storm water management, and access to the site.

During the meeting, Planning Commission member John Zimmerman voiced his opposition to the Planning Commission failing to approve the plan. “Just approve it,” he stated. Other members of the Planning Commission felt that they could not act on the plan as submitted. Member David Ennis questioned how the plans were to be evaluated by the Town’s Engineer since that same company had developed the plan presented. “You keep delaying this. Just build it. If I want to build something on my farm, I just build it,” Mr. Zimmerman continued. Chair of the Commission, Dick Brady clarified that this was the first the Planning Commission had seen the plans and had not delayed the project up until this point.

During the Burgess and Town Commissioners meeting on Wednesday evening, the decision was made to hold a joint meeting of the commissions. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Walkersville’s Town Hall.hfp-bldg-site-plan50359543
