Walkersville Day – Gadgets and Gizmos Galore
Walkersville Lions Pride Original Story by Kaitleen Borromeo
Ah, Walkersville Day; a day of bargains, thrill seeking and fun. Every third Saturday in the month of May, Walkersville residents and churches set up yard sales throughout the area to sell old, unwanted items. Everyone in the area looks forward to this day each year.
This event brings a new meaning to “Spring cleaning”. Walkersville Day gives certain individuals a chance to get rid of belongings while earning money and gives others the opportunity to find the hidden treasures they have been looking for all along.
Many people get a kick out of Walkersville Day for all sorts of reasons.
Walkersville resident Tony Enzinetti says “It’s great to see the amount of people who come out for this event. I get to see my neighbors more often and I like that the concept of this event is just a way of bringing the community together. My favorite part would be seeing everyone bring their dogs with them.”
In the turn of events, while walking through the little streets in the heart of Walkersville, I stumbled across a yard sale organized by three girl scouts. According to their mother, all the proceeds they end up earning would go to Frederick Memorial Hospital.
“This is our first time participating in Walkersville Day. I didn’t know how it would turn out, but I really like it and I hope to do it again next year,” said girl scout Emily Wilson.
“We decided to sell our old toys and books in order to earn money for the hospital. It feels good doing this because I know this little act can do good things,” said girl scout Lily Wilson.
“My favorite part about Walkerville Day so far was seeing everyone in the community come out and participate. It’s really fun and it’s really simple, which brings out even more joy to everyone in Walkersville,” said girl scout Sarah Wilson.
We can all probably understand why everyone looks forward to this day. We are all able to get something out of this every year, whether it is the porcelain lamp you have always wanted, acts of kindness, community support or great memories.
