Walkersville Celebrates the Season with a Christmas Tree Lighting

WHS Lions Pride Original Story:

Local, Award-Winning Country Music from Mike Kuster

by James Shea

Wednesday, at Creamery Park in Walkersville, families and friends came out to see Santa and enjoy the lights.

Friends and family were all together; there were lights, a beautiful chorus, and a warm, loving atmosphere. There was a choir singing really beautiful Christmas music and there were families singing along and humming.

Steve Stull, a resident of the area who comes to this every year, and a frequent attender of the show, said “Yeah, we come out here every year.” He continues “We look forward to it every year. It’s a good thing to get together with family and friends to just enjoy the lighting, the music, and the comradery.”

Everyone was close together, socializing, eating snacks, and being family. Burgess Chad Weddle, who was running the show at Creamery, said “This is a tradition for the past ten years. There are a lot of activities, cookies hot chocolate, and a great choir singing. This is a good community event and good people came out.”

Santa Claus came out from outside the park and he started talking to the children there and passing out candy canes. He was cheerful the entire time and really hyped everyone up for Christmas.

“This isn’t my first time coming down here. I was checking on kids all year round. I just came down to keep an eye on all the kids to make sure they were at the right part of the list. No presents here, they’re still getting ready for Christmas,” said Claus.

Everyone was getting into their Christmas spirit at Creamery. There were donations of cookies from local grocery stores like Safeway and Wegmans, and there was free hot chocolate for anyone, which was quite delicious. The community of Walkersville outdoes themselves every year at the park.
