Veterans Day Remembrance

Burgess Whitmore and Navy Captain honor Horace Wright, Veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines in World War II

The Town of Walkersville will hold its annual Veterans Day Service on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The service will be held at Walkersville’s Memorial Park located at Five Corners, the intersection of Main Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Liberty Street.

The Veterans Day Services will feature two speakers, both World War II Veterans. Marvin Elfman served in the United States Navy from 1944 until 1946. Elwood Hummer served in the United States Navy in 1944.

The service will also take include:
  • The Yellow Springs Band,
  • Boy Scout Troop 1070,
  • Melissa Joseph representing Congressman Chris Van Hollen of the 8th Congressional District,
  • United States Veterans Motorcycle Club,
  • American Legion Post 282 Honor Guard, and
  • Taps by Milliard Haines.

All Veterans will receive an award from the Town of Walkersville Burgess and Commisioners.

Walkersville Town Commissioner Donald Schildt organizes the annual event. Commissioner Schildt urges citizens, “Please take time on Sunday, November 8th at 1 p.m. to honor those who served that we may continue to live in the Land of Free and the Home of the Brave.”
