Walkersville Adopts Unregistered or Inoperative Vehicles Ordinance

The Town of Walkersville’s Town Commissioners voted Wednesday evening to adopt a new ordinance addressing unregistered or inoperative vehicles with more specific language and restrictions. Town Code Enforcement officer, Andrew Dewese, presented the ordinance he modeled after the City of Frederick and other jurisdictions. The Walkersville Planning Commission recommended approval of the ordinance after making a few minor changes and adding a defintion of inoperative motor vehicles during its meeting Tuesday evening. Walkersville Recommends Approval of Agricultural Preservation Easements

The Town of Walkersville voted Wednesday evening to recommend approval of three Agricultural Preservation Easement applications and express their support of three other applications. The Frederick County Planning Commission asked for comments from the Town of Walkersville regarding six applications for the easements. Walkersville Planning Commission members were told that forty properties applied for easements, and the list had been narrowed to twenty, which includes these six properties. Fredericktowne Baptist Church’s steeple is down on the ground this week. The church on Biggs Ford Road in Walkersville is receiving some extra care and maintenance on its topside. The repairs to the roof required the removal of the large white steeple. So, crews set the steeple, which more than doubles the height of the church, down in the parking lot. “It does make you take a double-take as you go by,” one resident told us as she jogged by the church this morning. Sheetz Expansion Approved

The Walkersville Planning Commission granted approval to Sheetz’ site plan and site improvement plan last night. The approval came after the planning commission approve the formation of one lot from two owned by Nancy Sheetz, whose husband Steve Sheetz serves as Sheetz Family Council Chairman for the Altoona-based, family-owned convenience-store chain. Work was already underway to Tuesday to meet requirements for approval. An abandoned sewer line that once served a home on the former “Lot 2R” had to be removed before Frederick County and the Town of Walkersville approved any of the requests.…
