Rapid Water Rescue
At 9:42 p.m. on July 29, 2015, Walkersville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies were dispatched to MD 26 and the Monocacy River for a rapid water rescue.
While units were en route, Emergency Communications Center told all incoming units that Maryland State Police were on the scene with one patient on an island in the middle of the river.
Heavy Duty 2 was first to arrive and established command. As Rescue Squad 24 and Qunit 11 arrived, they set up to assist with lighting up the area.
Boat 2 and personnel from the ATR team arrived. They quickly put a plan together to get the patient out.
The patient was not injured at the time. So, the patient was loaded and carried back across the river to Ambulance 248. One patient was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital.
