Plans for Twenty New Town Homes and Walkersville Library to be Discussed

The Walkersville Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Walkersville’s Town Hall.

After being removed from the Frederick County Capital Improvement Plans by the last Board of County Commissioners, County Executive Jan Gardner put the project back on track last year by including it in her budget. After reaching out to Executive Gardner for comment, she reiterated her commitment to the project.

Some members of the County Council, however, have given the project less support. Several years ago, Council Member Billy Shreve suggested combining the public library with Walkersville Middle School’s library. Last Tuesday, Council Member Tony Chmelik stated that “the Walkersville Library is a want not a need.”

The Planning Commission will also discuss a new concept plan for the Staley property on Glade Road that was previously approved for four four-unit apartment buildings. The new plan proposes twenty town-homes on a single road with two connections to Glade Road.Staleyconceptplan
