On Friday October 17th, the Walkersville Lions varsity football team suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. The Lions lost to a very talented Linganore team by a score of 27-7 and saw Walkersville’s record fall to 3 wins and 4 losses.
1st Quarter
Walkersville started off the game with the ball but was not able to make anything happen and were forced to punt. The Lancers were able to put together a solid drive that ended with a touchdown, but they missed the extra point. Linganore now had a 6-0 lead with just over five minutes to go in the quarter. Walkersville responded with a long drive that showed off the Lions powerful running game. The drive ended when Senior Quarterback Colin Bowersox ran a quarterback sneak into the endzone for a touchdown. The first quarter ended with Walkersville in the lead 7-6.
2nd Quarter
But Walkersville was not able to hold that lead for very long as Linganore scored a rushing touchdown just three minutes into the quarter. This time they converted on the extra point and the score was now Linganore 13 Walkersville 7. The Lions offense was stagnate throughout the quarter and was not able to put any points on the board. Linganore took advantage of Walkersville’s ineffectiveness and scored another touchdown with under five minutes to go in the half. At the half Linganore had a 20-7 lead over Walkersville.
3rd Quarter
Throughout the quarter both teams traded possessions with neither putting any points on the board. But with two minutes to go in the quarter Linganore scored on another rushing touchdown that put them up 27-7. Senior Luke Molnar said “That was quarter that hurt us the most. We weren’t able to convert on any opportunities; we let the game get away from us.”
4th Quarter
Neither team generated any offense in the final quarter and Linganore won the game by a score 27-7. Junior Austin Farinholt said “I felt like we played really hard, Linganore was a really tough team and we kept the game close.”
With the loss Walkersville’s record falls to under .500 for the first time all season. With only three games left in the season they need a big win against Oakdale this Friday to put momentum back on their side. Senior Gage Robertson said “I am proud of my boys; they played a good game.”
