On October 17, two teams that both were 5-1, the Walkersville Lions, and the Oakdale Bears faced off, which was considered the game of the week. At the end the Lions lost in heartbreaker 34-13.

At half time the score was 14-13 Oakdale. In the first half is where Jared Spriggs, and Kyle Daggett both caught touchdowns. After the half the Lions couldn’t seemed to get back in groove, and Oakdale was just taking their time going up the field. As well the special teams for Walkersville struggled in the return game. But the heavy ground running worked better this week.

“We needed to pass more, and the defense was playing too much zone coverage. Also the special teams was not tackling; there were two special teams touchdowns. Running did way better in this game than the Linganore game,” said Junior Mikey Schnepfe

“ Our defense couldn’t contain the run, and the offense wasn’t completing  passes in the second half. Our passes in the first half were spot on including are two touchdowns,” said Senior Taylor McClelland.

“There was offense or defense in the entire second half, which changed the momentum in Oakdale’s favor. We were forced to throw some bad passes, and we kept fumbling the ball. Our offense in the first half was great completing passes, breaking tackles, and finding holes in the defense” said Junior Brad Janis

“ At halftime it was a close game, but after that Oakdale just ran it right up the field, and completed  long passes, and created turnovers on defense. We also should have played more Man defense instead of zone because of their long pass plays. In the first half the offense and defense played really great, ran the ball with power, and speed. Also completed some great passes for touchdowns” said Senior Aaron Reeder.

It was a heartbreaking loss, but they have to get over it, because next week the Homecoming game is against Brunswick here at Walkersville.
