Indoor Track Season Begins with a Strong Showing from the WHS Team

WHS Lions Pride Original Story:

The Walkersville High track and field team competed in their first track meet of the season at Hagerstown community college on Saturday December 9th. While most of the athletics were nervous for the first meet, others were more than happy to welcome their race.

“ I think the first meet went well; a lot of personal records were made already and Autumn qualified for nationals. It was good” Junior Natalie Miller says. “ It was the first meet so there were some things that weren’t quite worked out and my races didn’t go as well as I would’ve liked but there’s time to improve and train in between now and the next meet, so hopefully the next one goes better” Junior Mara Lucic says. “ I felt comfortable for a first meet and comfortable because I was placed with no time and there was no pressure. I felt like I did well in my races” Senior William Staab said after his race. “ We put hard work and efforts in at practice and it really showed off at our first meet” sophomore Tineka Younger said.

“ It was a good way to see where we stand as a team and personally, also now we know what we need to focus on fixing at practice” sophomore Katie Hamilton says.  Autumn Parson stated, “ I am glad to see, that even with the loss of so many influential athletes from last year, our younger athletes were able to step up and compete in their place allowing us to place second overall. There is always room to improve of course and we will be working hard towards our goals as the season progresses, but as for now I couldn’t be happier with the devotion and good representation the team has for Walkersville. Personally I am beyond grateful to have performed as strongly as I did and look forward to more personal records.” Parson opened her season with a new meet record, personal record, and school record, running 7.13, currently the third fastest time in the United States.

Each athletic went out and gave it their all on the track. We wish each and every athletic good luck as the season progresses.
