Gardner to Hold Open House on Workforce Housing Proposal for 520 North Market Street Building
Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner will host an open house town-hall style meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, to share information about a proposal by Interfaith Housing Alliance, Inc., (IHA) and PIRHL to purchase the county-owned property at 520 North Market Street, Frederick, Md., for purposes of creating workforce housing. The meeting will be held in the first floor hearing room of Winchester Hall, 12 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland.
Executive Gardner invites the public to attend the public meeting to view renderings of the proposed renovations to the building, ask questions and hear a short presentation. “Working together with Interfaith Housing Alliance, we look to transform a well-loved city icon into a mixed income housing development right in the heart of downtown Frederick, thus helping to revitalize that area. My Community Needs Leadership Team identified the need for workforce housing, and this public-private partnership idea is suited for seniors and millennials alike. The proposal has already received positive feedback,” she commented.
IHA’s vision is to develop the site into 55 to 60 workforce housing rental apartments for mixed income families with some units reserved for at- or below-median income families. The building is within walking distance to the MARC train and would encourage further development and residential living in an area in need of an infusion of this kind of development.
The open house presentation will be televised starting at 7:30 p.m. on FCG-TV, cable channel 19, and webcast at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/video.
