Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On July 21, 2019 at approximately 0955, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack were dispatched to respond to a serious motor vehicle collision on Maryland Route 194 (Woodsboro Pike) at Good Intent Road. The collision involved a bicycle which was traveling on Good Intent Road, through the intersection of MD Route 194, and a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu which was traveling South on MD Route 194. The preliminary investigation revealed that when the bicycle crossed MD Route 194, it collided with the Chevrolet.

The operator of the bicycle sustained serious injuries. Emergency Medical Personnel on scene advised that the bicyclist had lost consciousness, and CPR was attempted. The operator of the bicycle succumbed to their injuries, and was pronounced deceased on scene at approximately 1033 hours.

The bicyclist was identified as Diane Centeno Deshields, age 59 of Rockville, Maryland. Diane Deshields was participating in a cycling event called “The Fire Fighter 50.” The occupants of the Chevrolet did not sustain any injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. The roadway has since been reopened.
