Executive Gardner Encourages Citizens to Stuff the Bus with School Supplies to Help Families in Need

County Executive Jan Gardner today encouraged citizens to join in the “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive to help families in need.

“With retailers offering school supplies on sale right now, it’s a great time to participate in the ‘Stuff the Bus’ drive,” said Executive Gardner. “In Frederick County, one in three households struggle to afford basic household necessities and it’s very difficult for many families to afford much needed school supplies. Let’s all do our part to help them and join in this campaign!”

Each year the United Way of Frederick County engages local businesses and individuals in the “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive. Last year, through the generous support of Frederick County businesses and citizens, five school buses were stuffed with over 33,000 items from over 77 collection sites that helped about 1,500 students begin the school year with the necessary supplies. This year’s goal is to stuff 10 buses.

Executive Gardner said that this is the first year Frederick County Government is participating in the campaign and noted that yellow collection totes are available at the following facilities in addition to many other locations throughout Frederick County:

  • Animal Control Division – 1832 Rosemont Avenue
  • Citizens Services Division / Emergency Services Division / Fire & Rescue Services Division / Volunteer Fire & Rescue Services Division – 5370 Public Safety Place
  • Courthouse – 100 West Patrick Street
  • Department of Treasury / Office of Sustainability and Environmental Resources / Planning & Permitting Division – 30 North Market Street
