County Reaches Deal to Retain Citizens and Montevue
Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner announced today that a comprehensive agreement – in principle – has been reached among all parties to settle the outstanding lawsuits and other legal issues related to Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center and the Montevue Home.
“I am extremely happy to share that Frederick County Government will retain Citizens and Montevue, will continue our longstanding shared mission of taking care of our own, will honor the original deed on the land, and will keep our promise to our seniors by serving our indigent elderly,” County Executive Gardner said during an afternoon news conference. “Citizens and Montevue have always represented something good and special in our community.”
It will be 30 days until all documents can be drafted and executed. Until then, all three parties – Aurora Holdings, the citizen plaintiffs known as Save Citizens and Montevue, and the County – have agreed that the details of the settlement will remain confidential.
Aurora will continue to operate the facilities during the transition period, which is expected to take at least a year. Patients at both facilities, including the indigent elderly at Montevue, will continue to be cared for. The County and Aurora will work together to ensure continuity of employment for the staff
