Due to the COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings and social distancing, graduation seniors across the country have been unable to enjoy the rites of passage most know and expect; proms, award programs, dinners, graduation ceremonies, and parties.
In Walkersville, community members have rallied to offer celebrations for Walkersville High School graduates recognition outside of the school system’s normal ceremonies which will all be virtual this week and next week.
On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, the community will hold a Community Graduation Celebration for Walkersville High School Seniors around the pond at 11009 Bennie Duncan Road.
Organizers spent the weekend preparing for the event which will feature seniors in cap and gown with family groups of less than ten people, Pomp and Circumstance, a photo op at the gazebo, and each senior being recognized.
On Friday, June 5, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., the Walkersville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies, in cooperation with the Town of Walkersville, will host a parade and celebration giving the Walkersville High School Class of 2020 the celebration they deserve.
The community is encouraged to come out and show support as graduating seniors drive through town. Community and supporters may come out along the route to join in the celebration and give these students a night to remember. Proper social distancing protocols and face masks are required.
Seniors will meet at Heritage Farm Park to line-up starting at 6:00 p.m. Participants need to send a confirmation email to Liongrad2020@yahoo.com.
The seniors will parade from Heritage Farm Park, up South Glade Road, and then right onto West Frederick Street to the fire station parking lot where they will be treated to one last BIG surprise.
There will be NO PARKING in the fire or rescue company parking lots. The fire and rescue company parking lots will be reserved for the Seniors and their families ONLY.
