This year will definitely see changes on the board. Burgess Ralph Whitmore announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking re-election. Long-time Commissioner Chad Weddle wasted no time filing his candidacy for Burgess. Despite rumors that other Town Commissioners would also file as candidates for Burgess, the remaining four filed for re-election as Town Commissioners.

Town leaders have urged residents to get involved and run for office. A group of citizens in Old Town Walkersville have been encouraging individuals to run for all offices.

As of this morning, no one had filed their candidacy except the incumbents. Making the candidate list:

  • chadweddle
Walkersville Town Commissioner Chad Weddle is running for Burgess of Walkersville

    Burgess:

    • Chad Weddle
  • Commissioner:
    • Debora Zimmerman
    • Russell Winch
    • Donald Schildt, Sr.
    • Gary Baker

If no other candidates file before next Monday afternoon, Commissioner Weddle will run unopposed for Burgess, and the four incumbent commissioners will run unopposed. That would leave one seat empty on the board of Town Commissioners. A vacancy can be filled by a vote of a majority of Town Commissioners, or by a special election if Town Commissioners fail to do so.

The eligibility to hold elected offices in Walkersville government are as follows:
