This weekend, January 22-24, in Frederick County and all over the East Coast we will be expecting a late Christmas present, Winter Storm Jonas. The meteorologists are saying there in fact will be a storm, and it could be a big one.

According to www.wunderground.com, “Storms parent disturbance is near the West Coast.” They also are saying that this will be the first storm in 13 years to dump a foot of snow on the entire Northeast megalopolis. “It could knock out power to hundreds of people.” Another serious problem is the coastal flooding could become a serious problem.

Www.wunderground.com states ways to stay safe, and advice for the winter storm to come like stocking up on batteries and other items in case you lose power. Make sure you stock up on your everyday items so if you cannot leave your house, you are prepared.

The storm is predicted to start Friday afternoon to Saturday night. The storm could also come with the occasional 60 mph wind gusts. There will be a full moon occurring this weekend, which the meteorologists say could worsen the predicted coastal flooding. In the D.C and Baltimore there is predicted to be a blizzard.

My mother, Stacy Boyer, states her advice and opinion: “It’s about time we got some snow this winter. I’d advise to cue up some Netflix, pop some popcorn, get a good book, and try to stay warm.”

Counseling office secretary Deanna Meyer says, “For me personally, I’m worried about the power going out. I would stock up on non-perishables, water, some sort of heating supply, batteries, anything you need to survive if you get stuck inside and can’t get out. I wouldn’t stock up on refrigerator items, because the power might go out. They say buy your milk, bread, and toilet paper, but I buy the boxed milk. I would also fill your bathtub up with water because you can use that to flush your toilet.”

She states if she would like snow, “I do not want snow, I think it’s because I grew up on a dairy farm and had to work in the snow. I also don’t like to drive in it.”

Senior Regan Bernardoni says, “I like snow but I also enjoy the beach. I think it’s also because seniors don’t have to make up any days, so it would be nice.”

Sophomore Kayla Ketchum states her opinion, “I do want it to snow, I’m a winter baby so I want it to snow.”

Senior Jared Schaeffer says, “I want it to snow; it’s money in my pocket because I can plow the snow for people.”

Overall, it sounds like the people at Walkersville are ready for the snow so be prepared, and bring it on mother nature!
