Local Resident’s Video Leads to Arrests
Dave Cole, a resident of Walkersville, is helping fight crime in Walkersville. For the second time this year, he has assisted the Maryland State Police in identifying criminals breaking into vehicles in his home town. The most recent assist came this Sunday, August 2, 2015.
In both instances, Mr. Cole posted videos from his home’s surveillance cameras to his Facebook page. The cameras show two different shots of his driveway. He asked friends to share the videos to help identify the culprits.
During the first break-ins, the thieves broke into Mr. Cole’s vehicle. They can be seen going through things in his car.
The criminals saw themselves on Facebook in the videos. When approached by Maryland State Police, they admitted to their crimes.
This weekend, the criminals were not able to get into Mr. Cole’s vehicles, but they did steal from others. They are also believed to be responsible for destruction of property.
Mr. Cole posted the videos around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The videos have been viewed over 35,000 times. By Monday afternoon, Mr. Cole received an e-mail message from Maryland State Police to tell him that the thieves had been caught and some items were recovered.
