WHS Custodians Again Earn Superior Award
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Jalyn Jones
This month custodians at Walkersville High School have received a superior award on this years inspection. “I’ve worked in four high schools, and this is by far the most officiant, helpful, and cooperative I’ve been around,” said Principal Tracey Franklin. “They take pride in the school. The award was deserved, they’ve earned it because you never have to worry about them getting the job done.”
All of the daytime custodians were questioned, and expressed their thoughts and feelings on receiving this award. They all had to say that they are proud of the crew and nobody was left out. The award was earned by the crew as a whole. That’s what got the job done. “We worked very hard to get that award,” said Custodian Philip Bittner.
There is also a night crew that comes in and works. From 2:15pm to 11pm, after everybody heads home, they clean the whole school. “A clean class[room] and school sets the tone for students and staff; they don’t have to worry about their environment being clean,” said Franklin.
During the day, lead custodian Michael Gibbons is in charge, and during the night shift it is custodian Bernard Ambush. “They clean the whole school and help set up and take down events, like cleaning after a football game,” said Gibbons about the night shift crew.
“I’m glad people can see what we do, and that we do our job and take it seriously. We try to keep it clean and safe for students, and they aren’t a big mess,” said custodian David Sweeney.
“I feel pretty good, we all work together and tribute to keep the school up and good,” said custodian Larry Beard.
They have been working hard and it definitely shows considering they were able to win an award this year for a job well done.
