Walkersville Seeks Support for New Library
The Walkersville Library project, once side-lined due to budget restraints, returned to the budget last year, and will be a part of upcoming budget hearings. The plans will replace Walkersville’s very small library on West Frederick Street with a larger, state of the art library between South Glade Road and Polaris Drive.
The County Executive’s hearing on the budget will be held tonight, March 16, 2016. The County Executive is in support of the project. The county awaits final confirmation of a $1,000,000 grant that will help fund the construction.
The County Council will be holding a hearing soon.
Library supporters in Walkersville hope to have strong public support in the form of residents and elected local officials. Supporters urge the public to attend meetings to speak out on the continued funding in the CIP for the Walkersville Library. Letters, Emails, telephone calls, and social media need to be utilized to send the message also.
According to a message sent to Walkersville elected and appointed officials, “If we remain silent, we may lose this project and have to return this grant, which will be impossible to get again. Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated and valuable to the continuation of this project in our community.”
