Walkersville Inducts New Members into National Honor Society

This past Tuesday, December 4th, 74 new members were inducted into the prestigious National Honors Society at Walkersville High School.

National Honors Society is an affiliation that recognizes superior achievements by high school students across the country. NHS students are expected to show greatness in scholarship, leadership, service and character–characteristics that have been associated with the organization since the 1920s.

The officers and advisor, Mrs. Skena, organized the event. First, the president of the society, Shayna Maleson, introduced herself and the induction. Following the greeting Mrs. Kibler gave a speech about conquering adversity. She expressed her struggles as a basketball player, becoming a principal and coach. After her speech Mrs. Skena spoke about the society and the accomplishments the students have completed to be at the induction. Next, the officers of the society gave speeches about the pillars. After the speeches the new inductees were called on stage to sign the book. The book contains signatures of all the members that have been in the society since it has started here at Walkersville.

“It was really cool coming to the induction as a returning member. It was a new experience sitting in the audience and watching the new members walk across the stage and sign their names. I also really liked how this year they incorporated the facts as they walked across the stage. Seeing how happy some of the students were to become a part of the National Honor Society made me happy as well” Said senior Chidera Ogwulu.
