Walkersville High Wins Startup Frederick
Walkersville High School won Startup Frederick “Shark Tank”-like student competition: Jarvis Cain, Keanu Rosa, and Rayel Wright…..
Their $2,000 prize-winning project is called Ethereal.
Students from every public high school in Frederick County tested their business ideas in the competition modeled on the TV show “Shark Tank.”
Startup Frederick, designed through a partnership between the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce and Frederick County Public Schools, is the first competition of its kind in Frederick County. Like the television show, competitors each pitched a concept and business plan to a panel of leading business people who served as judges. Judging the competition were Soldierfit CEO and founder Danny Farrar, Spherion Staffing owner Tammy Feaster, and Acela Technologies President and CEO Daryl Boffman. The event took place at Tuscarora High School and included an Open House and networking event before the competition.
The competition was intense and began months ago. Jarvis, Keanu, and Rayel demonstrate the effectiveness of teamwork and commitment to a desired goal. To be announced as the winner for all of FCPS is quite an accomplishment. Glade Valley is incredibly proud of each of them and thank them for once again representing the abundance of talent present at Walkersville High School.
