Walkersville High School Unified Sports program is raising money to cover expenses beyond their budget including end of the year banquets, charter buses to state meets, and other expenses that may come up throughout the season.

WHS is home to the 2016-2017 Unified Tennis and Unified Bocce state champs, and are looking to become the first school to hold a state title in all three unified sports in the same school year as the track and field season kicked off last week.

The Unified Track and Field team is also chasing their third straight state title.

To raise money, WHS Unified Sports has set up a GoFundMe with the goal of raising $1,500. See the link to GoFundMe page below. They are nearly halfway to their goal!

“The GoFundMe is a great way for our team to raise money because the money goes directly to our program and we get all of the profits from it. It’s also really easy because all people have to do is click the link and donate,” said sophomore Baylor Baxley, a member of the Unified track team.

Additionally, they are selling Rita’s discount cards for $5 each, and purchasers receive 10% off for every visit.

“Rita’s cards are a great way to fundraise because they’re very practical. A lot of people in our school and community enjoy going to Rita’s. Five dollars is a small price to pay for a 10% discount, and it goes to a great cause,” explained senior Maddie Hommey, a two year member of the Unified Track team.

“I love going to Rita’s, so I bought a card as soon as I heard they were selling them. It’s also for a good cause, and it’s good to support our Unified teams because they’ve been some of our most successful sports teams this year,” shared sophomore Chidera Ogwulu. “It’s been fun to see them do so well, and I’m glad purchasing a Rita’s card will benefit their teams.”

The Unified Sports program at Walkersville has seen a lot of success in the past few years, and hope that their fundraisers raise enough money to help cover expenses that are beyond the school budget.
