Summer Outreach of Walkersville Area Churches

Local, Award-Winning Country Music from Mike Kuster

This summer, Walkersville area non-profits, volunteers, and churches will provide food and activities for area youth.  The Summer Outreach of Walkersville Area Churches holds the activities at Discovery Community Center and Creamery Park.

The Summer Outreach of Walkersville Area Churches (SOWAC) heads into its sixth summer of programs for youths 18 and younger. Kids enjoy a healthy lunch, games, and crafts with adult supervision. Last summer, Creamery Park averaged 22 children in daily attendance, and Discovery averaged 40 children.

Youth will meet each weekday this summer from Monday, June 16 until Friday, August 15; they will not meet July 4th.

Nutritious hot lunches, provided by the Frederick Community Action Agency, will be served at the Discovery Site from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm, and at the Creamery park site from 12 noon until 1:30 pm.

Glade Valley Community Services provides the funds needed for additional food, crafts, games and other needed supplies.

The Walkersville Library will be supporting the program by reading to the children one day a week, providing books for free and having the Book Mobile come by once a week.
